After resting in evergrove Isle the party attends to business that had been held off while on the run

Vira does a little thievery in the enforcer files in the building we are hiding away in. Mad speaks with Aer and Julian, helping them get situated in the Vein. Grimwald speaks to the Scrimshander about whether they have ever been elsewhere and if they had ever considered going to the astral sea. Caiden is diverted from his walk by successful advertising, as the shopkeep (of the Rattlebones Apothecary) correctly guesses that he had been mugged recently, and learns that he has been headed in the Wrong Direction. He makes it back after warming up a little. Mad and Adelheid go to confront the Priest Gdansk, who 'tithed' from Caiden, and get from him the knife and a bucket of blood. As the moon rises, we revisit the apothecary, where we have food and look at trinkets. We take the trolley heading toward Evergrove isle, Caiden's home, green and unaffected by the oncoming winter, with a lone large spire.

Caiden shows us around the gardens, tended by a fairy named Daisy. In the tour the party notices that the stars in this place are different. Heading indoors we speak with a long time servant of Caiden about the state of the empire as rooms with coffins are prepared for the vampires.

Adelheid has a private conversation with Grimwald, where she inquires about if he truly does not know what his kin have been up to. He reveals that he married into the empire to get food for his people, and he despises them for taking everything from him, including his last name. Adelheid swears that she will not allow such a thing to happen again, as has happened to her.

The Scrimshander gets the letter from Vira and reads it:

Excerpts from what appears to be a chronicle of the end of the world. The writer of the journal seems to address it to another person, originally written as letters. Unrolled and pasted down onto the page.

Dearest Hildegarde, We've finally stopped for the evening and already I find myself longing for home. I didn't want to admit how dearly I would miss you. Not to your face. Oh you would gloat, or worse… cry.

I didn't want to inspire tears when my departure brings the first glimmer of hope for the village. Under the Empire we shall be offered security, and never fear the hunger pangs of famine again. I need only do my part to fulfill our end of the bargain and we shall be saved.

I hope that The Huntress will gift you with a bounty that the garden and our animals can not. Grimmwalde shall persevere it has faced the blight and rot before… I'll admit It hasn't been this bad since I was a small boy, The summer before you were born. I have a distinct memory of wandering into the family garden plot, past maggot riddled cabbages and barren plots where seeds refused to grow. There were these inky black carrot leaves that disintegrated as I pulled up on them leaving only a slick stain on my hands. Desperate I clawed a handful withered roots from the earth. They were no larger than my pinky finger, wretched colourless things, and yet I brought my bounty back to share with mother like they were some great treasure.

This time I'll bring everyone carrots worthy of treasuring. I promise you.

Vira goes to talk to Adelheid, revealing that she is part of an anti-governmental organization, and she asks Adelheid to go to one of their meetings. After inquiring more into how Vira is part of their organization and what their goals are, Adelheid agrees to go to a meeting. Summary by John
