A series of happenstances bring an unlikely group of individuals together on the first Eve of Crimson Harvest.

The Crimson Harvest is upon us, a time of Feast, for man and vampire alike. The Carriage carrying Vera, a new vampire, takes a detour, dumping Vira in a ditch without so much as stopping. Leaving the Scrimshander to watch over her while her Vampiric Sire Misha Ossick is off to worry about more pressing matters. Vera rights herself and she and the Scrimshander head off to enjoy the festival.
Mad accompanies the Bleachbone Enforcement Unit from The Knell alongside Emperor Doros Greycastle. Sgt. DeVein, a sprightly and terrifying woman with dark hair and dark glasses is overseeing things while the emperor gets situated overlooking the festival. Mad is tasked to patrol looking for trouble. He spies an individual in a tattered blood red cloak, with a skin-like mask, doing a poor job sticking to their face. Their movements are a wrong thing (Skullduggery). he spies another individual ill fitting in the celebration, heavily cloaked, clothes befitting a traveler (Adelheid). He first goes to Adelheid, and they have a terse conversation. He moves on toward Skullduggary. Caiden, on a date with Wren Hastielle, a friend (there will only be one date.) crashes a broom in the square, nearly hitting Skullduggary interrupting Mad on his way to the ill-skinned figure. Skullduggary does a sexism.
Radio Happens. There is a mattress ad for Coffins while the sun sets.

And now Without Further ado - The Xiphoid Process' “Put that Heart on Ice”
The Scrimshander and Vera move through the crowd. Vera is hungry, but no food is appetizing. The two discuss vampirism, and the reason Vera has been turned. She has been accepted into the vampiric family regarding her skill with the violin.
Caiden, his date, and Skullduggary reach the front of the line for the ferrous wheel. Adelheid stalks for some vampiric prey to hunt. Caiden spots someone skulking by a frozen water pipe suspiciously, but Wren spots no one, the figure having moved on.
A speech by the Grand Prince commences. Mad, on the lookout, spots a suspicious figure, and begins to push toward them. The figure notices, and they hop a trolley to make a quick escape. The King and Emperor are plunged into magical darkness. A gutteral cry pierces out and a pair of bodies drop. Crackling and Shattering bones echo about the crowd as chaos erupts and roils with panic. None can see who has fallen. Adelheid moves for higher ground, Mad heads to the stage, Skullduggary strikes up a convo with Wren, Caiden is stuck with Skullduggary in the Ferrous Wheel, and Vera moves to get a snack. Broken, bleeding but still moving, Mad sees that the emperor lies next to the impaled Grand Prince, the God of Blood, stuck upon a silver rib from the Emperor's wardrobe, possibly dead. Mad nat-1s a medicine check to remove the rib, but it gets lodged in the Prince. Ichorous blood seeps over his hands as he burrows for the lodged piece. Still, the Emperor and prince are separated from each other, though the prince is impaled further. DeVein reaches out for an update.
Vera spies a motionless person standing above the crowd, Adelheid, and begins to stalk toward her. Adelheid notices her in return, and shaking her fear moves toward an alley. The Scrimshander notices this, but they only watch. Those up in the Ferrous wheel make their way down. Caiden heads for the Emperor. Skullduggary DGAF, and leaves the situation, Caiden continues to inspect, but after seeing the emperor not immediately dead, resolves that he can't do anything.
In the alley Vera attempts to grapple Adelheid and fails. After a scrap, Adelheid stabs Vera, nearly getting the chance to deal a fatal blow with a silver knife before the Scrimshander interposes themselves, and deals a mighty blow in return, frightening Adelheid into running directly into the keepers, now enforcing a curfew. Scrimshander and Vera go peacefully with them after they heal Vera.
Skullduggary continues to purview the fair. The keepers take them in after Skullduggary does another sexism. Caiden is also arrested. Mad speaks to DeVein, before the keeper who arrested Skullduggary, Minerva Blackwood, heads to see Mad as well. It becomes clear that Mad has perhaps hurt more than helped by attempting to disentangle the Emperor and Prince, and Minerva determines that he should be taken in. She knows that Mad is a Lockwood, he gives her a truly devious scowl.
We all end up in the same wagon and are introduced to one another.
